Connect Bing Webmaster Tools to SiteOps
Bing Webmaster Tools is Microsoft's version of Google Search Console. It shows how your site appears in Bing search: which queries bring people in, how often your pages show up, and where they rank. It is free, and it also covers the search results inside Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and Microsoft Copilot, which all lean on Bing's index.
Most sites ignore Bing, which is exactly why it is worth two minutes of your time. Competition there is thinner, so pages that sit on page two of Google often rank on page one of Bing. Those are cheap wins — traffic you get without writing anything new.
Connecting it to SiteOps puts Bing's numbers side by side with Google's in one search card. If your site is already verified in Google Search Console, the whole setup is an import, one key, one paste.

Let an agent do it
If the Search Console import is not an option and you verify manually, an agent with access to your DNS or your site's files can place the proof for you.
Verify my site in Bing Webmaster Tools — the manual way.
1. I added <my domain> manually and Bing offers three methods. Use whichever you can reach:
- DNS: add the record exactly as Bing shows it: <the record from the verification screen — type, host, value>.
- File: place the BingSiteAuth.xml file at the site root so it loads at https://<my domain>/BingSiteAuth.xml. Its contents: <contents of BingSiteAuth.xml>.
- Meta tag: add <the msvalidate.01 meta tag> to the head section of the homepage.
2. Confirm the record resolves or the file/tag is publicly reachable.
3. Tell me when it is, so I can press Verify and then generate the API key under Settings, API access.Signing in, the one-click Search Console import, pressing Verify and generating the API key are console clicks only you can do.
If something does not work
- I cannot find API access in Settings
- The API access section only shows up after you have at least one fully verified site in the account. Finish verification — or run the Search Console import — then reopen Settings.
- Which key do I paste — is there a client ID or secret too?
- Just the one API key from the API access section in Bing's settings. There is no client ID, secret or token exchange. If you are being asked for more than one value, you are in the wrong place — SiteOps only has a single field for Bing.
- I verified and pasted the key, but the chart is empty
- Two usual reasons. First, Bing reports with a delay of a day or two, and a freshly verified site starts with almost no history — give it a few days. Second, check that the site verified in Bing is exactly the address SiteOps tracks, including www versus no www and http versus https.
- The Search Console import does not list my site
- The import only shows properties where the signed-in Google account is a verified owner, not just a user. Check your role in Search Console, or sign in to Bing with the Google account that owns the property. If that is not possible, verify manually with DNS, the XML file or the meta tag.
- My numbers in Bing look tiny compared to Google
- That is expected — Bing has a smaller share of search. The point is not volume, it is the ratio: pages that rank well on Bing but poorly on Google are usually one small push away from ranking on Google too. Treat Bing as a cheap testing ground.
