Connect Google Analytics 4 to SiteOps
Google Analytics 4 is Google's free tool that counts who visits your site. It records each visit, the page people land on, the country they are in, and where they came from — a Google search, an ad, a social post, or a link on another site.
On its own, Analytics is a big place with a lot of menus. SiteOps reads just the numbers a marketer checks every day — visits, sources, countries — and puts them on one calm page next to your search rankings, revenue and ad spend. No tags, no code, no reports to build.
Connecting takes about five minutes. You sign in with Google, allow read-only access, and pick your property. This guide walks through every click, including the parts where people usually get stuck: finding the right property, telling GA4 apart from the old Universal Analytics, and knowing how long data takes to appear.

What this consent screen actually grants — one read-only scope If the window lists several Google accounts, take a second to pick the right one. Choosing the wrong account here is the number one reason the next step shows an empty list.
If something does not work
- I connected, but the Visits chart is empty
- First check that Analytics itself has data — open Reports, then Realtime, and browse your own site in another tab. If Realtime is zero, the Google tag is not installed or not firing, and there is nothing for SiteOps to read yet. If Analytics shows visitors but SiteOps does not, you most likely picked the wrong property — disconnect in Settings and connect again, checking the property name.
- The property list in the Connect window is empty
- The Google account you signed in with cannot see any GA4 property. Either sign in again with the account that manages Analytics, or ask that person to add your email: in Analytics, Admin, then Property access management, Viewer role is enough.
- Which key or ID do I paste into SiteOps?
- None. The GA4 connection is a Google sign-in, not a key. The Measurement ID starting with "G-" belongs on your website's tag, not in SiteOps. If you are holding a code that starts with "UA-", that is the old Universal Analytics and it no longer works anywhere.
- Today's visits look lower than what Analytics shows
- GA4 finalises its reporting data with a delay of up to a day or two, and the Realtime screen counts differently from the daily reports. Compare yesterday or last week instead of today — those numbers should match. If a finished day still disagrees, check that both tools are on the same time zone.
- I have several sites — do I connect each one?
- Yes. Each SiteOps project connects to its own GA4 property. Connect once per project and pick the matching property each time. One Google account can hold access to all of them.
